Perry Barr Railway Station, Birmingham

Project Overview

This project at Perry Barr Train Station was completed as part of the infrastructure improvements for the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham in 2022, helping to enhance accessibility and passenger flow at a key transport hub during the event. The station underwent a significant refurbishment to support increased footfall and to ensure it met modern accessibility standards while presenting a refreshed, contemporary finish.

A key element of the upgrade was the installation of the Pathway Guidance System from Genesis Global Systems Ltd, specified to assist blind and partially sighted users in navigating the station safely and independently. The system provides clear directional guidance throughout the platform and concourse areas, improving access to essential points such as ticket offices, lifts, and platform connections.

The Pathway System offers both traditional 6mm diameter shank mechanical fixings and 3M adhesive-backed options, making it suitable for a wide range of substrates and installation requirements. Its versatility ensures it can be installed quickly and effectively while delivering full compliance with DDA and Equality Act 2010 requirements for tactile guidance surfaces in public transport environments.

Available in a wide range of designs, sizes, and colour contrasts, the system allows for tailored wayfinding solutions that complement both functional and aesthetic requirements of each site.

At Perry Barr Station, FTSSD drill fixed studs, FTCA 3M fixed corduroys and FTCD drill fixed corduroys were specified, and the finished installation contributed to a modernised, accessible environment, transforming the once dated facility into a brighter, more user-friendly transport interchange.
