Project Description

As part of the redevelopment of Llanerch Vineyard Hotel in the Vale of Glamorgan, attention was recently turned to a key feature within the hotel, the staircase leading to the refurbished dining balcony. Requiring a solution that blended safety with high-end aesthetics to complement the venue’s premium dining environment, the project centred around the integration of the ‘NALR’ Vision Light Down Stair Nosing profile from Genesis. Selected for its striking visual appeal and robust performance characteristics, the NALR Stair Nosing was paired with 4.8W Natural White LED tape, delivering both enhanced visibility and a stylish finish.

Offering a lifespan of 40,000 hours, the LED tape provides practical durability, while its 3M VHB backing guaranteed maximum adhesion during installation and the IP65 rating of the lighting system ensures resistance to dust and low-pressure water jets.

Carpet Fit Wales expertly managed the installation of the complete Vision system to ensure seamless illumination. The result was a dramatic and sophisticated staircase upgrade that not only improved safety but also elevated the overall ambience of the dining space.

Llanerch Vineyard Hotel Historical Summary

  • Llanerch means “clearing or clear area” in Welsh; established in the 1800s as a 22-acre working farm.
  • Originally centred around a three-bedroom farmhouse with diverse agricultural activity until 1970.
  • In 1970, the farm was purchased for family use, with extensive space for horses, their transition from pharmacy owners to hospitality entrepreneurs began after selling their pharmacies in the 1980s.
  • The owners were inspired by a Guardian article on vineyards, prompting them to start Llanerch’s vineyard project.
  • First wine production in 1989 named “Cariad” (Welsh for love), initially created for their daughter’s wedding.
  • From 1999, Llanerch’s wine was produced off-site at Three Choirs vineyard to support expansion.
  • Llanerch was sold in 2005; at the time, it included a farmhouse, vineyard, visitor centre, and leisure facilities over 20 acres.
  • New ownership post-2005 failed due to the economic crash; vineyard fell into disrepair until 2010, when new owners acquired Llanerch, shifting plans from an extreme sports park to vineyard redevelopment.
  • Reopened in 2011 after refurbishment, becoming a restaurant, wedding venue, and tourism destination.
  • A hotel extension adding 26 bedrooms was completed and opened in 2019.
  • Adapted to COVID-19 by launching a farm shop and converting event spaces into socially distanced dining areas.
  • Recognised as AA Best Hotel in Wales with two AA Rosettes for its restaurant as of 2021.
